eMarketer.com predicts worldwide B2C (business-to-consumer) eCommerce sales to increase by a staggering 20.1% this year, reaching $1.5 trillion. This drastic growth is largely due to increased use of online purchasing through mobile devices and, greater shipping and payment options.
In a report by Forrester,
U.S. Online Retail Forecast, 2009 to 2014, analysts Sucharita Mulpuru and Peter Hult predict that USA e-retail sales alone will total $249 billion by 2014. A breakdown on sectors revealed the following:
- Consumer electronics: Approximately $13.6 billion (growth predicted).
- Apparel, accessories and footwear: Approximately $27 billion (double digit growth predicted).
- Computer hardware, software and peripherals: $27 billion (slow down on PC sales as mobile technology increases).
